What is S3-compatible Object Storage?
S3 object storage is a storage model, popularized by Amazon S3, that stores data as objects rather than files or blocks, offering scalability, durability and simple access. It’s widely used for backups, data lakes, web hosting, and any workload needing reliable, low‑maintenance storage.
S3-compatible object storage refers to object storage solutions that implement the same API and protocols as Amazon S3, allowing applications to interact with them without code changes. This compatibility enables seamless migration, multi-cloud strategies and reduced vendor lock-in while maintaining scalability and cost efficiency.
Unlike file systems (folders) or block storage (fixed-size blocks), object storage doesn’t use a hierarchy but organizes data in a flat structure. Data is stored as objects within buckets, each object containing the data, metadata and a unique identifier. The flat namespace is accessed via API call or HTTP(S) using standard RESTful methods like GET, PUT, DELETE and HEAD.
How to monitor S3-compatible Object Storage?

The monitoring statistics gathered in this way include:
- Total object size
- Total object count
The returned values are filtered based on the selected object prefix.
It is common to then apply custom thresholds to the values returned by these indicators per resource to alert on specific conditions.
How to install a s3-objects resource?
- Use your ServicePilot OnPremise installation or a SaaS account.
- Add a new s3-objects resource via the web interface (
/prmviewsor/prmresources) or via API (/prmpackagespage), the default ServicePilot agent or another agent will be provisioned automatically.
