What is a Standard Network Device?
A Standard Network Device is a generic part of the digital infrastructure. They are network devices with Simple Network Management Protocol (SNMP) agents enabled. This protocol equips IT administrators with the capabilities to oversee equipment functions and troubleshoot arising issues. The SNMP service, when enabled on any device, facilitates standardized network monitoring in accordance with the RFC1213-MIB2 protocol. This empowers IT administrators with real-time network visibility and comprehensive diagnostics capabilities, promoting swift issue resolution and reliable network operation. ServicePilot's solution for Standard Network Devices capitalizes on these SNMP capabilities to provide standard continuous monitoring of any device with an enabled SNMP service.
How to monitor a Standard Network Device?
ServicePilot makes it very easy to monitor a Standard Network Device. Simply configure the SNMP interface of the Standard Network Device. Then use the ServicePilot web interface to add a resource from the ServicePilot network-standard-device package.
The monitoring statistics gathered in this way include amongst others:
- Loads (In Load and Out Load)
- Traffics (In Traffic and Out Traffic)
- Discards (In Discard and Out Discard)
- Errors (In Error and Out Error)
- Speeds in 32 or 64 bits (In Speed and Out Speed)
How to install a standard-device resource?
- Use your ServicePilot OnPremise installation or a SaaS account.
- Add a new standard-device resource via the web interface (
/prmviews
or/prmresources
) or via API (/prmpackages
page), the default ServicePilot agent or another agent will be provisioned automatically.
Details of the standard-device package are located in the
/prmpackages
page of the software.
