What is Proxmox Backup Server?
Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) is an open-source backup solution designed to backup, replicate and restore virtual machines, containers and physical hosts. It is designed to integrate with Proxmox Virtual Environment (PVE) but can also operate independently.
Key PBS capabilities include:
- VMs, containers and physical machines backup from Proxmox VE or other systems.
- Incremental and deduplicated backups, reducing storage usage and network load.
- End-to-end data encryption, allowing safe backups even to untrusted storage locations.
- Fast data restoration, thanks to optimized storage and indexing.
- A clean web interface for managing backups, datastores, and retention policies.
Proxmox Backup Server monitoring
ServicePilot makes it easy to monitor Proxmox Backup Servers requiring only the installation of a ServicePilot Agent along with minimal configuration on the target server. A resource of the server-proxmox-bs package then needs to be added via the ServicePilot web interface.
The monitoring statistics gathered in this way include:
- Data Storage: Per storage space total, available, used, read, write and usage.
- Storage I/O: Per storage Read I/O and Write I/O.
How to install a proxmox-bs resource?
- Use your ServicePilot OnPremise installation or a SaaS account.
- Add a new proxmox-bs resource via the web interface (
/prmviewsor/prmresources) or via API (/prmpackagespage), the default ServicePilot agent or another agent will be provisioned automatically.
Details of the proxmox-bs package are located in the
/prmpackagespage of the software.
