What is Proxmox Virtual Environment?
Proxmox Virtual Environment (Proxmox VE) is an open-source server management platform for enterprise virtualization. It combines KVM-based virtual machines and LXC containers under a single, unified management interface, enabling deployment and administration of virtualized workloads.
Proxmox VE integrates compute, storage and networking resources into a centralized cluster architecture. It supports high availability (HA), live migration, backup, restore and role-based access control (RBAC) for secure multi-tenant environments. The platform includes built-in support for software-defined storage solutions such as ZFS, Ceph and LVM, as well as advanced network configuration options with bridging, VLANs and bonding.
Proxmox VE monitoring
ServicePilot makes it easy to monitor Proxmox Virtual Environments requiring only the installation of a ServicePilot Agent along with minimal configuration on the target server. A resource of the server-proxmox-ve package then needs to be added via the ServicePilot web interface.
The monitoring statistics gathered in this way include:
- System: CPU and Memory utilization, global network and disk IOs
- Storage: detailed filesystem utilization
- Network: detailed interface status and utilization
- Applicative: running processes and related resource consumption
- Virtual Machines: Hosted Virtual Machines status and resource utilization
How to install a proxmox-ve resource?
- Use your ServicePilot OnPremise installation or a SaaS account.
- Add a new proxmox-ve resource via the web interface (
/prmviewsor/prmresources) or via API (/prmpackagespage), the default ServicePilot agent or another agent will be provisioned automatically.
Details of the proxmox-ve package are located in the
/prmpackagespage of the software.
