What is DNS?

DNS (acronym for Domain Name System) is a hierarchical decentralized naming system for services or other resources connected to the Internet or a private network. It translates memorized domain names to numerical IP addresses needed for locating and identifying computer services and devices with the underlying network protocols.

Besides address resolution mechanisms, DNS operations provide other features such as MX records and mail transfer agents...

DNS monitoring

This package monitors DNS service Availability and Response Time.

This package automatically provisions the ServicePilot Manager and configures the ServicePilot Agent to collect indicators from DNS in order to monitor availability and performance of DNS services.
Name resolution for specific DNS records can also be tested.

The statistics gathered in this way include:

  • Delay to get a response
  • Number of retries needed before getting the response
  • Response code given by the server
  • Response given by the server in readable text format
