What is Skype For Business Edge Role ?
Typical Skype for Business VoIP environments often include a Skype For Business Edge Role.
It is necessary if you need external users who are not logged into your organizations internal network to be able to interact with internal users. This role would be vital if you want the services provided by Skype for Business Server to be used by people who are outside your internal network.
This role is vital for communicating with:
- Remote Users
- Federated Users
- Mobile Users
- Anonymous users
Users will be able to enjoy the services that are hosted by your Skype for Business Server deployment such as IM, presence, audio/video conferencing or web conferencing.
Skype For Business Edge Role monitoring
The ServicePilot Skype For Business Edge Role package collects Edge Role server or pool statistics.
This package automatically configures the ServicePilot Agent to collect statistics from Skype For Business Edge Role using WMI. The statistics gathered in this way include:
- Active Relay Sessions
- Authenticated
- DataProxy Server Connections...
Requirements
It is preferable to install the ServicePilot Agent directly on the target server than using remote WMI collection.
ServicePilot Agent installed on target machine: The ServicePilot Agent needs to run under an account with local administrative privileges. The ServicePilot Agent uses the local system account by default which has these privileges.
ServicePilot Agent installed remote to the target machine: An account with WMI Remote Access privileges on the machine to be monitored is required. See Authorize WMI users and set permissions.
Network Flows - It is necessary to ensure network connectivity between ServicePilot and the monitored device.
- ServicePilot Agent installed remote to the target machine:
- TCP/135, TCP/445, and additional dynamically-assigned ports (1024-1034): Between ServicePilot Agent and Microsoft AD server
- Authentication access for a domain account from server on which ServicePilot Agent is running to the domain controllers
- ServicePilot Agent installed remote to the target machine:
